Your Itinerary for the Perfect Girls’ Break in Inverness
Whether it’s to celebrate a hen party or just to catch up with old friends, a little girls’ trip to get away from the worries of your busy everyday lives is just what the doctor ordered. We have prepared your itinerary for the perfect girl’s break in Inverness, make the post of your break away! Inverness is a great destination for a minibreak, with ample opportunities for some shopping, pampering and new experiences in a picturesque town filled with history, culture and beautiful views over the dramatic Highlands landscape that surrounds it.
To help you plan your weekend getaway with the girls, we’ve put together a detailed two-day itinerary to Inverness below. Just add some good friends, lots of laughter, stir and enjoy!
Saturday morning – Arrive in Inverness and get settled
Once you’ve arrived in Inverness, come to the Palace and we can hold your luggage until check-in at 3pm when you can get settled in to your relaxing room. All the sights of Inverness are within an easy walking distance in the city centre, so once you’ve set down your bags and had a catch up with your crew, head out with your girlfriends for a bit of sightseeing. Make your way to the Inverness Castle Viewing Platform for great views over the city and surrounding hills. Here, you can also take in the beauty of Inverness Castle at close range.
Then, walk through the Old Town, admiring the beautiful Victorian architecture on Church Street and its surroundings. Check out the impressive 19th-century Inverness Cathedral and pop into Inverness Museum & Art Gallery for a dose of local and Highlands history as well as some local, national and international art and craft.
Alternative: Discover Inverness by bike
Or, for a more quirky way to see the sights, challenge your girls and hire some bikes! Choose from the local bike shops Highland Bike Rental or Inverness Bike Hire for your perfect pedals. You can then cycle around Ness Islands, to the start of the Caledonian Canal or perhaps out to Culloden or even Loch Ness! It’s a great way to take in the sights, have a chat and perhaps have a few races along the way.
Saturday afternoon – Lunch & shopping
After an hour or two of exploring the sights, it’s time to treat yourselves to some lunch. The Rocpool offers Scottish fine dining with a two-course lunch menu carefully crafted with high-quality local ingredients. The stylish restaurant offers beautiful views, a stylish setting and boasts an impressive wine list. Or enjoy lunch at the chic New Brasserie here at the Palace, with a menu filled with classic Scottish favourites, juicy gourmet burgers from the grill and some delicious sharing platters.
Once you’ve refuelled, it’s time to hit the shops! There are plenty of opportunities for shopping in Inverness, from high street favourites to independent boutiques and Scottish specialities. At Eastgate Shopping Centre, you’ll find a Debenhams as well as shops like New Look, H&M and Marks & Spencer. The Victorian Market is full of little shops selling gifts and souvenirs, while bookworms will love Leakey’s Bookshop, Scotland’s largest second-hand bookstore built inside an old church.
If you’re after traditional Scottish goods, head to the Highland House of Fraser, where you’ll find tartan scarves and blankets, Harris Tweed products and Celtic jewellery. Alternatively, Judith Glue is a charming boutique just a stone’s throw from Inverness Castle, offering cute clothes and handmade gifts from Orkney. Meanwhile, Castle Gallery sells beautiful art prints, crafts and jewellery that make for unique mementoes or presents.
Saturday night – Dinner & a show, then dance the night away
Once you’ve shopped and seen the sights, it’s time to swap out your trainers for high heels, dress to the nines and hit the town with the girls. Enjoy our delectable pre-theatre menu and some cocktails at the New Brasserie or enjoy dinner with a view at our Eight on the River restaurant.
After dinner, enjoy a West End hit, a new play or a dance performance at Eden Court Theatre or check what’s on at the Ironworks concert venue. To catch some fabulous local live music, head to Hootananny on Church Street. Downstairs, you’ll find great traditional music while the upstairs venue, Mad Hatters, has gigs on from almost every genre imaginable.
As the sun goes down, enjoy some yummy cocktails at Bar One, home to tasty signature drinks like the Loch & Load and the colour-changing Aurora Borealis. You could even book a cocktail workshop here for you and your friends for a truly memorable night out! For dancing, head to The Den to continue the night right into the wee hours. Alternatively, Inverness’ newest music and performance venue The Botanic House hosts gigs as well as things like drag shows and a weekly club night on Saturdays.
The perfect start to your Sunday morning – Breakfast in bed
Once you wake up on Sunday morning, gather the girls together for an indulgent breakfast in bed. A full Scottish breakfast ordered through room service is just what you need after a night on the town, so enjoy your eggs, sausages and haggis while lounging in your comfortable bed. Alternatively, check out one of our top 6 breakfast spots in Inverness.
After breakfast, you can continue enjoying your lie-in and watch a film in bed or, if you crave a little fresh air, head out for a stroll down the banks of the River Ness, taking in the beauty of Ness Islands as you head south of the city centre. You can swap funny stories from the night before, take some group shots or simply enjoy the tranquillity of a Sunday morning in the Highlands.
Sunday afternoon – Spa treatments & girly afternoon tea
Continue your lazy Sunday with some perfectly pampering spa treatments. If you’ve chosen the Palace Hotel for your accommodation, simply make your way down to our spa and leisure centre for a swim, a steam and a sauna before taking your pick of the spa treatments available at the Sleeping Beauty Spa. Enjoy a facial, a massage or get your nails done for ultimate indulgence.
And what luxurious girly weekend away would be complete without afternoon tea? Feel like royalty while sipping tea out of dainty cups or treat yourself to some bubbly while enjoying delicious finger sandwiches, cakes and scones. We serve our afternoon tea with fabulous views over the River Ness at our New Brasserie and in December, we can even host a special festive tea party just for you and your friends.
Alternatively, head to the award-winning Simpsons Garden Centre for afternoon tea in their glasshouse restaurant – a gorgeous option especially on sunny spring and summer days when the flowers are in bloom. After you feel sufficiently recharged and relaxed, spend the rest of the afternoon doing any last-minute shopping you meant to do yesterday or simply explore the streets of Inverness before you say your goodbyes and head home with a whole host of new, precious memories.
